Field Maintenance Technician

Location: Durham, NC and surrounding areas
Company: HomeSmiles Durham NC
Position Type: Full-Time | Field Work

About This Role

HomeSmiles Durham NC is launching locally in March, and this role represents our first field hire. We are looking for a reliable, capable Field Maintenance Technician who wants hands-on work today and the opportunity to grow with us as we scale.

HomeSmiles provides professional, preventative home maintenance services. We handle the routine but important work that helps homeowners protect their investment and avoid costly repairs. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys physical, hands-on work, takes pride in doing things the right way, and wants to be part of building something from the ground up.

While initial work will be part-time, we expect to grow quickly. The right person will have opportunities for more consistent work, increased responsibility, and leadership as the business expands.

Pay, Bonuses & Career Growth

This is our first field hire, and we are building with growth in mind. While the role starts part-time, the goal is to grow into a full, scalable operation with real upside for the right person.

  • $20–$30 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience

  • Opportunity to earn additional compensation by identifying additional services homeowners request (such as window washing or gutter guard installs)

  • Bonuses may be offered for:

    • 5-star customer reviews

    • Referrals (customers or team members)

  • Regular performance check-ins with opportunity for increased pay and responsibility

  • Flexible scheduling

  • Clear path toward Lead Property Maintenance Technician responsibilities as the business grows

  • Company provides uniforms and all major equipment such as power washing equipment, ladders, safety gear, and job-specific tools

As HomeSmiles Durham NC scales, strong performers will be first in line for increased workload, leadership opportunities, and long-term growth.

What You’ll Be Doing

Depending on the job, responsibilities may include:

  • Performing home maintenance tasks such as:

    • HVAC filter changes

    • Dryer vent cleaning

    • Gutter and downspout clearing

    • Basic exterior and interior maintenance tasks

    • Light, non-licensed repairs within scope

  • Meeting homeowners or property managers to confirm service details

  • Completing work efficiently and professionally in occupied homes

  • Documenting completed work with photos or brief notes when requested

  • Communicating issues, scope questions, or unusual conditions

This is a non-construction, non-licensed repair role. You will not be asked to perform plumbing, electrical, roofing, or general contractor services.

What Makes This Role Different

  • First hire: You will help shape how this location operates from day one

  • Growth-focused: Dependable technicians will be first in line as work volume increases

  • Hands-on leadership path: Opportunity to take on lead responsibilities as we scale

  • No high-pressure sales environment: Focus is on quality service and professionalism

What You’ll Need

  • Comfort working independently in occupied homes in a customer-facing role

  • Friendly, professional demeanor with the ability to represent HomeSmiles well and identify additional homeowner needs when appropriate

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Reliable transportation

  • Comfortable working on ladders and outdoors

  • Strong attention to quality, safety, and professionalism

  • Clear communication and follow-through

  • Prior experience in hands-on maintenance or trade-related work, especially in customer-facing environments, is helpful but not required

Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way.
